A Centre for Research and Development has been established in the institute which has the following specific objectives:

Research and Development center is functioning to coordinate Research and development activities of the institution, guided by the Advisory Committee, headed by the Principal.

The R & D cell is responsible to formulate various process, procedures, and methodologies for research activities.

R & D cell along with R & D coordinators from various departments, coordinates routine research activities of the institution.

R & D cell functions with the following specific objectives.

• Undertaking research and development programmes with Government/ Private agencies / Industries
• Catering to the specific needs of industry for product / process development
• Development of Technology Business Incubator (TBI), primarily promote partnership with small scale industries and engineering entrepreneurs.
• Extension of basic and applied research of MCET, through prototype and pilot plant development.
• Dissemination / transfer of know-how in the forms usable by the manufacturing units.
• Special need-based training / orientation programmes for serving industrial personnel / entrepreneurs / faculty of technical institutions.
• Providing linkages with different sponsoring agencies for development of R & D programmes in the emerging areas of engineering and technology.
• Developing Intellectual Property Rights for commercial projects.
• Creating of database of experts in various spheres of Engineering and Technology.

• Financial incentives for consultancy activities by faculty members
• Permission to avail funding from various government and other collaborating agencies for basic/ applied research and application research
• Incentives for publications in selected national/international journals
• Finance for participating in national and international conferences/seminars
• Incentives for fetching external grants from government and non-governmental institutions

• All scholars of MCET are expected to maintain Academic integrity in their research. Academic integrity includes values of morality, trust, honesty, respect, social responsibility, legality and Professionalism.
• All scholars of MCET should adhere to relevant policies of government, institution and professional societies.
• The scholar whose research involves human subjects, animal subjects, and nature should obey the relevant policies while carrying out the research. All scholars should respect the human rights and dignities of all those involved in any inquiry project and must appropriately address questions of consent, power relations, deception, confidentiality and privacy. In particular, scholars must address a range of complexissues around developing and maintaining respectful and ethical relationships withresearch partners based on mutual respect for academic traditions and institutionalcircumstances.
• All scholars are encouraged to disseminate original results of their high quality research in the case of projects and thesis.
• Any scholar exhibiting misconduct the necessary disciplinary actions will be taken according to the type of allegation and the report of investigation. If the registration of particular scholar is cancelled, he/she will not be eligible for readmission to any of the courses of this Institution. Cases of misconduct includes Plagiarism, Piracy, Abuse of copyrights, Abuse of Research Resources, misuse of funds, Fabrication, Falsification of data, Fraudulent changing of records, Misconduct in formal examinations, Disrupting the works of others and misleading ascription of authorship
• If the scholar faces any issues while carrying out the research that should be reported to the concerned supervisor very immediately.
• Over and above all the scholars of MCET are expected to follow the Research Conduct rules of Anna University Chennai by which MCET is affiliated..

Procedures for checking malpractices and plagiarism in Research

A team consisting of faculty members from the department , analyses the research work proposed by the individual faculty ( or group of faculty members ). The team validates the proposal from research perspective with respect to contemporary value addition . The internal committee members are identified by the HOD and R&D coordinators of the concerned department.

Outputs of scholarly research and product/ application oriented research are processed through plagiarism detection software for publications.

The norms in respect of sharing of revenue from consultancy work carried out with the approval of Head of Institution, as incentive are as follows.

1. The net revenue received for consultancy will be apportioned on 60:40 ratio (60% to institution and 40% for incentive purpose) if institution resources are utilised.

2. If institution resources are not utilised revenue will be apportioned as 40:60 ratio.
